2012 Strategic Plan

Approved by the Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians Board on 11/12/2011

 

Mission Statement:

The mission of WAFP is to promote excellence in health care and to improve the health of the people of Wisconsin through the advancement of the art and science of Family Medicine and the professional growth of Family Physicians.

Areas of Focus

Patient Centered Medical Home

Goal 1: Promote payment reform at national, state and local levels

  1. Facilitate and participate in discussions with payers (ie. WPRI)
  2. Identify opportunities for payment reform
  3. Prepare and disseminate information and tools for members to address payment reform with payers and employers
  4. Collaborate on payment reform with ACP, AAP and others

Goal 2: Communicate to members, policy makers, payers and the public the benefits of PCMH, define its components and advantages to patients, practices and physicians

Goal 3: Provide members and practice managers with information, models, CME and resources about methods that work to implement the components of the Patient Centered Medical Home

  1. Promote the values of NCQA recognition in combination with payment reform
  2. Leverage the knowledge and expertise of NCQA recognized practices to help others (ie. small practices) with best practices, tools, resources and consulation
  3. Promote educational opportunities sponsored by other groups
  4. Assist members with payer negotiation strategies

Advocacy

Goal 1: Develop and promote family physicians as health policy leaders and partners

Goal 2: Increase the influence and presence of WAFP in the legislative process

  1. Promote loan repayment and other workforce initiatives
  2. Monitor scope of practice
  3. Reestablish the key contact program
  4. Educate students and residents on legislative advocacy

Membership Value

Goal: Promote the membership value equation 

  1. Provide an array of opportunities for members to be engaged (ie. Social media)
  2. Provide support for MoC (SAMs parties)
  3. Promote the value of membership to non-members
  4. Promote membership following residency

Leadership Development

Goal: Develop long term plan for developing future leaders

  1. Create a mentoring program

Support a Sufficient Family Medicine Workforce

Goal 1: Convene a statewide primary care summit that focuses on workforce issues

Goal 2: Support strategies to recruit and train a culturally diverse family physicians workforce in WI       

1. Create and implement strategies to identify and recruit mentors/preceptor
2. Find new ways to work with the medical schools
