Call for Nominations to WAFP Board of Directors

Nominations for Board of Directors positions are now OPEN! Are you interested in joining the WAFP or WAFP-Foundation Board of Directors?  Do you know an Academy member who would make a great addition to the WAFP or WAFP-F Board?  Do the descriptions below sound like you or someone you know?

If the answer is YES, then we want to hear from you!

WAFP & WAFP-Foundation value and seek diverse leadership from all practice types and sizes and we would love to have you join our Board of Directors!

Nominees should provide a current statement of interest along with a current CV. If you believe a colleague would be a great fit and would like to nominate them, provide us with a statement of support with the nominee's contact information, including email and phone. 

An annual strategic planning meeting is held in conjunction with one of the board meetings. 

Nominations are due October 15, 2024, so be sure to submit yours today!

WAFP Board Member Desired Qualities

  • Demonstrates leadership commitment and experience
  • Positive leadership attributes; emotional intelligence; ability to work collaboratively and engage in appropriate debate and discussion
  • Visionary and strategic thinker, in order to incorporate strategy, leadership, future focus, and entrepreneurial spirit

The WAFP Board has the following openings for 2024

  • President Elect
  • First Vice President
  • Second Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Directors (3)
  • Resident Directors (2)
  • Student Directors (2)
  • AAFP Delegate
  • AAFP Alternate Delegate

Board Member Terms

President-Elect is a 1-year term that moves up to President upon completion of the President-Elect term.

First Vice President, Second Vice President, and Treasurer terms are 1 year and may serve multiple terms.

Directors terms are 3 years and directors may serve up to 2 terms.

Resident Directors and Student Directors are 1 year and may serve multiple terms.

AAFP Delegates and AAFP Alternate Delegates are 2 years and may serve up to 3 terms.

Open positions will begin upon installation in March at the WAFP Annual Business Meeting. The board meets in person three times per year and participates in strategic planning. Board members are expected to participate in all meetings, read the board materials ahead of time and participate in the discussion at the meeting. In addition to in-person meetings, board members are to be responsive to electronic board communications (emails, surveys, etc.) as necessary. In addition, an annual strategic planning meeting which is held in conjunction with one of the board meetings.

Nominations

Nominations are vetted by the WAFP Nominating Committee, then presented to the Board of Directors for approval. The final slate will be brought to the assembly of members present at the Annual Business Meeting in March.

WAFP-Foundation Board Member Desired Qualities

  • An awareness of the specialty of Family Medicine and its important role in providing primary health care to the citizens of this state
  • An awareness of the programs and objectives of WAFP
  • An understanding of the goals and principles of a foundation and in particular the charitable, scientific, and philanthropic undertakings of the WAFP-Foundation
  • Experience with other foundations and fundraising activities
  • An appreciation for the opportunity of a foundation to expand the communication and improve the dialog with those individuals and organizations that may not be part of medicine, but that have an interest in primary care practice and the health care industry
  • A willingness to attend quarterly meetings and participate in email and subcommittee activities

The WAFP-Foundation Board has the following openings for 2024

  • Director
  • Student Director
  • Resident Director
