Get involved with WAFP's committees & workgroups

We have a few new opportunities for members to get involved. If you’re looking to participate in Academy activities and give back to family medicine, we have opportunities available. We are looking for 3-4 members to join each of these groups.

Education Committee

The education committee is responsible for planning the educational content for the WAFP & MCW Winter Refresher Course for Family Medicine, being held March 6-7, 2025 at The Trade Hotel in Milwaukee. Pre-conference responsibilities include identifying topics, recruiting speakers, reviewing speaker proposals, and reviewing session content from speakers before the conference. Volunteers should also be able to attend the conference where they’ll assist with speaker introductions and conference hosting duties. The education committee will meet via zoom starting in September through March as needed.

Awards Selection Workgroup

The awards selection workgroup will evaluate nominees and select the recipients of WAFP’s annual member awards – Family Physician of the Year, Family Medicine Educator of the Year, and the Lifetime Achievement Award. There will be a total of approximately 15-20 candidates to evaluate. Materials are provided to the workgroup for offline review and completion of an online scorecard to rank the nominees. If the online scorecards closely rank top nominees, the workgroup may meet once or twice via zoom to discuss the finalists select one winner.

Member Engagement Workgroup

The member engagement workgroup is charged with defining the value of membership in WAFP and identifying how we can help members recognize the value and be involved in the Academy. The workgroup is open to all members, though we have a specific need for resident and new physician (in your first seven years of practice after residency) members. The group will meet monthly via zoom starting in September through the winter. The exact timeline will depend on how long it takes to achieve the charge. The charge includes:

  1. Define WAFP’s value proposition.
  2. Describe the benefits of being a member of WAFP.
  3. Develop strategies to convey the value and benefits to our members.
  4. Determine the value, benefits, and resources that we should promote with resident and new physician members.
  5. Develop strategies to engage new physician members in Academy activities.
